Dundee 26th March 1827
At a meeting of the Tailor Trade held within their Hall this
day the Deacon produced a Requisition signed by a number of the
members requesting him to call a meeting for the purpose of
considering the propriety of insisting the rights of several persons
therein named and others to carry on the Taylor Trade within the
Burgh of Dundee, and the Deacon stated that he had called the
present Meeting accordingly
The Deacon and Boxmaster then stated to the meeting that
they had called upon the Individuals mentioned in the Requisition
vizt James Campbell, Peddies Land Barrack Street, James Mach
Murraygate (William Scrymgeour) Mr Downie Overgate ^who had^
each endeavoured to vindicate themselves by certain allegations,
which however were not satisfactory. – It was also reported to
the meeting that William Low Tailor Wellgate and Robert
Dow Tailor Thongs Street had been for sometime carrying on
business as Tailors within the liberties of the Trade without
having paid their freedom. –
Which statements having been considered by the
meeting they instructed their Clerk to write the whole of
the persons above named to enter with the Trade and pay
their dues or to shew sufficient legal evidence of their
being entitled to the freedom of the Trade without such
entry and payment.
The Boxmaster stated that he had seen Clark as to
the house proposed to be let to him since last meeting, but had
been unable to come to any terms with him, and in consequence
had let the house to Alexr Watt Excise Officer for a year from
Whitsunday next at Ten pounds. He also informed the meeting
that he had let the house lately occupied by Nannan to
Peter Donald for one year from Whitsunday next for £5.10 –
The Boxmaster also stated that he had paid Thomas Low
the Two Guineas ordered by the minute of the 12th February last.
The meeting instructed the Boxmaster to pay Widow Lamb
a shilling pr week till Whitsunday next
