Dundee 15 September 1824
At a meeting of the Trade held this day for the purpose of
electing a Convener of Trades, the necessary qualification by this
Incorporation being taken, Mr Wm Young Tailor in Dundee a
member of this Trade was agreed upon as a fit person to be
Convener of the Trades for the ensuing year, and the Deacon
was instructed to vote at the General meeting of the nine Trades
accordingly.
On the Deacons return to the Hall he intimated that Mr
Peter Dron of the Cordwainers had been elected by the
meeting of Trades as their Convener for the ensuing year.
It was stated to the meeting that Robert Dott
Tailor in William Street, without the Burgh had put up
a sign board in Kings Street within the Royalty, and this
being known to the meeting, they instructed their Clerk to write
him either to remove his sign board or pay his freedom to the
Tailor Trade.
The Deacon laid before the meeting a letter from
Mr James Brown Treasurer to the Watt Institution of Dundee
requesting him to recommend a subscription from the
funds of the Tailor Trade, and from individual members
thereof, and inclosing a subscription paper for subscribers.
The meeting having considered the letter & subscription
paper, ordered the same to lie on the table for further
consideration.

the Provost Bailies and Treasurer of the
Burgh – when the votes were unanimously
as follows viz. Patk Brown Merchant in
Dundee and formerly Provost of the Burgh
to be Provost for the ensuing year. – Patrick
Whitson Merchant in Dundee George Thom
Merchant in Dundee John Calman Merchant
