Mr Wm Mathewson proposed to enter his apprentice
John Farquharson as a free apprentice, and produced
his Indenture, which is for Six years, But Mr Mathewson
insisted that he was entitled to get the apprentice entered
for Three pounds five shillings in full of his dues of
entry including Seven shillings & Six pence formerly paid
for him. But as the Trade demurred taking less than
the full Three pounds five shillings at present in respect
of former practice, Mr Mathewson Paid the Three pounds
five shillings before the Boxmaster under protest that his
claim to get back the Seven shillings & Six pence should not
be thereby injured. The meeting having considered this
proposal they found that the entry money due for making free
apprentices should only be Three pounds ^& 7/6^ and therefore
appointed the apprentice to be entered for that sum
The Boxmaster returned five shillings to Mathewson,
and appointed the Clerk to draw out a minute of the
entry accordingly. – David Watt Dn
