Dundee 17 September 1823
At a meeting of the Trade held this day for the
purpose of Electing a Convener of Trades, the Qualification
by the Corporation ^of being taken^ Deacon Leas was agreed upon as a
Candidate to be proposed by the Trade, and their Deacon
was instructed to vote at the General Meeting of the nine
Trades accordingly. –
On the Deacons return to the Hall he intimated
to the meeting that Mr Wm Fairweather of the Weavers
had been duly elected by the meeting of Trades as
Convener for the ensuing year. –
It was stated to the meeting that when the
funeral of Mr James Reids child happened, Mr Reid
was not bound to attend the funeral of other members
or their families, and therefore the fines imposed and
paid by absent members on that occasion were ordered
to be repaid to them, and the same were repaid accordingly

for the following Gentlemen to fill the office
of Magistrates for the following Year, – viz
Pat. Anderson Provost Thomas Bell
James Gray Archd Ogilvie and David
Martin Baillies David Brown Trea-
surer.
The Meeting ~next~ also chose
Thomas Malcolm to be their Deacon for
the ensuing Year. –
The meeting thereafter ordered the floor
of the Kitchen of the House occupied by George
Watson Murraygate to be repaired. –
