Dundee 18th August 1823
At a meeting of the Trade held this evening, the
Deacon stated (to the meeting) that he had called the
meeting for the purpose of paying quarter accounts to the
Treasurer, several of which were paid accordingly – The
Deacon laid before the meeting an offer to the Trade by
Robert Dow Tailor of acting as officer to the Trades after the
demise of the present incumbent should he survive; which
offer being considered by the meeting they declined to accept
of the same and authorised the Deacon to intimate this
resolution accordingly to Mr Dow.

At a meeting of the Trade held this afternoon the
Deacon laid before the meeting a paragraph taken
from a London paper relative to a decided
appeal of the House of Lords concerning the
Militiamen and stating that they had no right
to exercise any privilege under the Militia Act
when only called out for training & ~exercising~
drilling in their disembodied state. – The Deacon
was instructed to state the same to Robert Dow
and that if he did not return without the Royalty
within eight days from this date or return to
a Master he would be found liable in the full
freedom –
