Dundee 19th February 1821
At a meeting of the Trade held this evening
Called for the purpose of entering William Watson
Ferrier, Burgess of Dundee son of John Ferrier Tailor
there a Member of the Tailor Trade, a Burgess
Ticket in favour of the said William Watson Ferrier was
produced, and read to the meeting; who having
considered the same and Mr Watson Ferriers
application, the meeting unanimously elected
the said William Watson Ferrier a full member
of the Trade, and ordered him to be entered accordingly,
and to get an Extract of his Entry on the back of
his Burgess Ticket. –
The Deacon laid before the meeting a Letter
from James Robertson Tailor Witchknow Dundee
dated the 13th Instant and addressed to the Deacon,
making offer to the Trade the sum of One
pound Sterling per annum for the liberty of
measuring and carrying work into the Town
and binding himself not to infringe any
farther on their privileges. – Which Letter
being read over to the meeting they unanimously
rejected the offer made by James Robertson,
and ordered the Secretary to intimate this
Resolution to Mr Robertson. –
Upon a motion from Mr Mathewson which
was seconded it was carried by a considerable
majority that it is the wish of the Trade that
the above James Robertson enter a full member
of the Trade and pay the full dues of his entry,
or if he prefers to remain where he is, he may
measure & carry work into the Town for his
life on payment of Twenty pounds; but
this is to form no precedent in deciding upon
any other application that may be made for
the privileges of the Trade. David Watt Dn
