Dundee 16th September 1818

The Tailor Trade being Met by appointment
According to the New Set of the Burgh
At Eleven Oclock Forenoon, for the purpose
of Electing a Convener for the ensuing Year
it Was ~At Same Time~ Stated by the Deacon
that according to a Committee of the Nine
Trades, appointed to Investigate into the
Qualifications of the Voters, that it is their Clear
understanding of the Set, that no person Being
a Member of More then One Trade, can have a
a Vote Either for Convener or Deacon in any but
One Trade ~and a Representative to the Town Council~
Likewise ~No~ ^any^ person Receiving Benefit from the
funds of a Trade Can have no Vote in Either Case
The Oath of Allegiance being Administered
in Due form – Deacon Thomas Low, was
Nominated for the Office of Convener by the Trade
The Leets being produced – Willm Roberts Esqr
was unanimously ~Elected Out~ ^Voted^ as The Convener
from the Tailor Trade and order the Deacon to Vote
Accordingly – the Trade Waiting the Deacons
Return from the Hall, Reported that Mr Roberts
Was Duly Elected by a Majority of one
a Motion Was Made By Mr Willm Mathieson
to Vestigate the Circumstances of Deacon W. Murray
