Dundee 7th April 1817
At a meeting of the trade called for the purpose
of considering the propriety of letting the Seats belonging
to the trade in the old church – It was moved by Wm Mathewson
and Seconded by David Watson that the three front Seats of the
loft belonging to the trade should be let at Whitsunday for the
behoof of the funds. and the three Seats behind should be
reserved for the benefit of those ^of the trade^ who would esteem it
a priviledge to sit in them – Deacon Beanston Moved that
the two front Seats should only be let for the benefit of the funds
and the other seats left for the members – this motion was sec=
-onded by David Milne – It was moved ^also^ and agreed to by the
Trade that the two preceeding motions should be decided on
Monday the 14th instant finaly – ~The trade~ also resolved
that according to a former resolution of the trade (in cons=
equence of a present made by Deacon Beanston of five
pounds sterling to the funds of the trade) that it should
be recorded in gold letters on the walls of their own Hall
in honor of the Deacon – and to encourage other benef=
actions of a similar nature the committe of the trade
were appointed to carry this resolution into effect
as early as possible – It was also agreed to give Mrs
Cochran 6/. at such times – and in such proportions as
the Deacon and boxmaster shall after proper investig
ation agree upon – and that 5/ shall be given to Widow
Smith – the Deacon and Boxmaster were appointed to call
on Tho Young and asertain whether he is now to enter
the trade – or pay the two pounds for an extended freedom
for six months longer – according to the principle of the
minute of the 17th Sept 1816 – W Mathewson
