Dundee 28th April 1823
The Trade being met the Deacon informed the
Meeting that Mr Andrew Garland had purchased
Mr Davidsons property behind the property in the
Murraygate belonging to the Trade, and intended
to build a Shade in the back Court immediately
behind George Watsons Shop which belongs to the Trade,
which Shade would shut up some of Mr Watsons Windows –
This being taken into the consideration of the meeting they
caused open their Chest and examine their Title deeds, but
could find nothing therein to throw light upon the Subject
It was next proposed and agreed to that the Roof
above the Trades Seats in the old Church should be
repaired, that a projection which overhung their backmost
Seat should if practicable be removed, so as to render that
Seat sufficiently commodious for a Tenant; and to cover the
back Seat with Green Cloth along with the other Seats and
to let it to a Tenant as soon after being completed as possible –
They also agreed to put a Skylight in the Roof above their
Seats if the Expence be moderate.
It was afterwards proposed and agreed to by the
meeting to make offer to Mr George Watson their
present Tenant of the flat, Shop & other premises
presently occupied by him for five or Seven years
after the expiry of his present Lease at Fifty pounds
per annum; And this offer having been signified to
Mr Watson by the Deacon, the Deacon informed the
meeting that Mr Watson had rejected the offer, and had
even intimated ~to~ that he would expect a deduction
from his present Rent in case Mr Garland should
shut up his windows by building in the back Court.-
