Dundee 7th August 1816
At a meeting of the trade it was proposed to raise the
mortcloths in the following proportion say the best cloth which
is now 2/6 of which the officer has 1/3 to be in future 3/6
the officer to have 1/3 – the second to be 2/6 – the officer
to have 1/ – the third to be 1/6 – the officer to have 6 – the
fourth to be 1/3 the officer to have 6 also – It was also
agreed as the present times are very severe that the
widows shall receive five shillings each to assist them –
and the Boxmaster to call in a month after and give
widows Fife – Anderson and W Smith and widow of W Donald
three shillings each additional – It was also resolved that
James Anderson should be paid his acct for altering the
seats of the old church and the work done to the house
in the Murraygate – and Bailie Thoms for the cloth and
fringe – A letter was received from Whirhal
Small requesting a deduction of the Rent of his house
and shop from L43 – to L35 and in case the trade should
not consent, resigning the property – The trade referred
the consideration of Mr Smalls request till his Lease
was out which has still more than two years to run,
It was also resolved to call a meeting on Tuesday first to propose
to let the seats in the old church by auction to the Members
of the trade till Martinmass and the intention of the
meeting to be intimated to the Members –
